Unmissable Chancer

Author and sequential artist, Garen Ewing, the creator of the adventurer, Julius Chancer, in The Rainbow Orchid graphic novel, will be chatting about and showing his work at the Cartoon County meeting on Monday, the 26th April, upstairs at The Cricketers, Black Lion St, Brighton, at 7.30pm.

In Support Of A Competition

Online charity Youthnet is running a competition for the 16-25 age group called ' Life Support : Change Through Art '. Comics, cartoons and illustrations are requested depicting what the recession means to those between 16 - 25. Entries can be new or existing pieces of work.

The overall winner will receive £1K towards their artistic development, and have their piece displayed with other shortlisted entries at an event held in London's Design Museum.

Art For Art's Sake

The great sequential artist, Arthur Ranson, has an exhibition of work on show at Orbital Comics, 8, Grt Newport St, London, from 14th January to 14th February. Nearest tube stn : Leicester Sq. Opening times from Mon to Sat -10.30-7pm,except Thursday when closing is at 7.30. Sunday opening is 11.30-5.

R Crumb Uncovered

Scream Gallery at 34, Bruton St, London, is showing R. Crumb Uncovered - an exhibition focussing on Crumb’s pen and ink strip work, but also including sketchbook pages, greeting cards, ink drawing on acetate, and one very rare oil painting.

The exhibition runs into December, and features all the iconic characters Crumb has created ; Mr. Snoid, Fritz the Cat and Mr. Natural. We also have an image of the late singer and comic book fan, Janis Joplin, printed on a sheet of acid tabs and signed by Timothy Leary.
