The Guardian calls Fumio Obata's recent graphic novel
Just So Happens (Jonathan Cape) ‘richly intimate and crazily accomplished’. Fumio will be talking to Alex Fitch about the cultural differences and social issues informing his work, based on his experiences in Japan, France and here. He's worked with Duran Duran and Channel 4 as an animator; worked on various projects with DC Thompson; and, since 2010, has been tutoring as a visiting lecturer for BA courses, helping students produce animation, graphic novels and children’s books. Born in Japan, Fumio lives in Britain, but works internationally. He has also created graphic reportage on the effects of the 2011 Japanese tsunami.
Talk time starts at 7-7.30pm at the Northern Lights, 6 Little E St, Brighton BN1 1HT, but we'll be there from 6.30. Do join us!
